Times Square, the most bustling square of New York is known for its many Broadway theatres, cinemas and electronic billboards. It is one of those places that make New York a city that never sleeps.
Times Square is basically a huge commercial attraction that is made up of a block of streets right in the heart of Manhattan. It is one of the most iconic images when you think of America and New York City due to it's number of huge billboards and advertisements that are light up 24 hours a day!
You can't get more New York than Times Square and one of the best parts about visiting it is the number of famous landmarks that can be found there. While you're there make sure you look out for and visit; Chevrolet Clock, Disney Store, Forever 21 (it's absolutely massive!), The Hard Rock Cafe, M&M's World, Planet Holleywood, Times Square Studios (where they film 'Good Morning America' and more), TKTS Booth and that's just to name a few! You're also right on the doorstep to world famous Broadway shows, comedy clubs and don't forget about the free on street entertainment! NYC is well known for its characters and there's no better place to see them than Times Square. Look out for the 'Naked Cowboy', Captain America, NYPD Officers, and basically any Disney character you can think of - they all hang out on Times Square. Keep in mind if you want a photo with them, it will cost you! Don't be surprised if you end up in the middle in a flashmob either, it doesn't just happen in the movies!
It is often thought that Times Square is the most visited place in the world with around 360,000 pedestrian visitors reportedly, every day! It's an absolutely buzzing part of New York and when people say it's 'the city that never sleeps' they're definitely talking about Times Square. You could literally go out at 11pm and do some shopping and it'd be as busy as a Saturday afternoon on Oxford Street! This is even more true in the summer when you're going to be there so you're definitely going to get the full New York experience which you won't get anywhere else.
Don't just stay on Broadway, which is easy to do if you haven't been before. While Broadway is amazing and definitely worth a visit, go up 6th and 7th Avenues for more landmarks, such as the Late Night Theater, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park.
Obviously we don't want to scare you and for the most part New York is a friendly and safe place. Just keeep your personal belongings, phones, cameras etc close to you when exploring busy areas and subway stations.
Just because there are loads of well known chain restaurants in Times Square doesn’t mean you should eat at them. New York is famous for it's local and street food so why not branch out a bit and choose some different places to eat.
