Camp Overview

YWCA Vermont Camp Hochelaga has been providing traditional summer camp experiences for girls and non-binary identifying youth ages 6-17 since 1919 under the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. Camp Hochelaga offers both residential and day camp experiences with a focus on creating spaces where campers and staff feel empowered to build strong friendships, step out of their comfort zones, experience social, emotional, and physical safety, and be strong, caring leaders. Camp Hochelaga is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain in South Hero, VT, providing endless opportunities to explore, build skills, take on challenges, and have a blast in our natural environment. Camp activities include sailing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, theater, dance, music, arts & crafts, ceramics, painting, basketball, volleyball, soccer, archery, nature, geocaching, orienteering, and so much more. Camp Hochelaga is deeply rooted in 100 years of traditions including lots of camp songs, a Fourth of July parade, campfires, themed banquets, camper musicals, and our highly cherished candelight ceremony. Each season we welcome a team of about 50 staff from all over the world to be passionate, empowered mentors and leaders for our campers.

STAFF TIME OFF

Each staff member is guaranteed 1 programmable period off during the day, with a rotating schedule for evening time off after lights out. Counselors are given 1 full day (32 consecutive hours) off each week. In addition, there is opportunity for staff to have a few additional Saturday evenings off throughout the summer.

STAFF QUALITIES

YWCA Vermont Camp Hochelaga seeks staff to join our team who demonstrate caring, positive leadership and mentoring, passion for the power and magic of camp experiences, ability to follow through on commitments, and tireless enthusiasm for working with kids. Camp Hochelaga encourages people with a strong belief in the mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and advocating for social equity to join us!
