Camp Overview

At Timber Lake West we take the job of coaching and caring for children seriously. We are looking for top quality summer camp counselors and camp staff who will take this job as seriously as we do. We are committed to being the best. A summer with us offers the opportunity to make life-long friends from across the United States and around the world. Last summer Timber Lake West warmly welcomed camp counselors from California to Maine, and international residents from around the globe. Each year, we have staff traveling from Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Eastern Europe to join us. We are a co-ed camp with no religious affiliation and our campers primarily hail from the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey & Connecticut). The days in camp are long; they run from wake-up at 7:45am through Evening Activity which ends at 9:15. Our expectation is that our staff will put the needs of our campers ahead of their own. We run six activity periods during the day and have a scheduled evening activity every night. Counselors are active participants along with our campers in these activities. A staff member’s role is to make the campers feel a part of the group and help them make friends and resolve conflicts. We look for counselors who are proactive: can anticipate problems before they happen, recognize when your campers are sick or sad or not feeling like they fit in. We want our counselors to always be present & attentive, and if you are, we promise you that in return you’ll have the summer of a lifetime!

STAFF TIME OFF

All counselors typically have one period off each day and three or four evenings a week from 9:15pm until curfew to unwind. During time off, counselors and other staff may use the camp facilities as long as it does not interfere with ongoing camper activities. Waterfront facilities are available when a qualified lifeguard is on duty.

The Canteen (snack bar) is open every night from 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM. We also provide low cost transportation to town most nights of the week for the staff. In addition, on days off, we do our best to accommodate staff needs for rides into and out of town. We go into greater detail during orientation

STAFF QUALITIES

We look for each member of our staff to set a positive tone while helping accomplish our mission of teaching children the skills of making and keeping friends while building self-esteem, self confidence and resilience.
