Our motto is “Happy staff inspire happy campers.” We aim to make Southwoods not just a wonderful place to be a kid but a great place to work as well. Our staff have diverse backgrounds, come from all over the world, and bring many different skill sets to the table. What they all have in common is:
A desire to make a positive impact on the life of a child.
A team-work makes the dream work mentality.
A willingness to be silly! Southwoods staff are the first to get up a “commit to the bit.”
A commitment to clear communication, active listening, and mutual respect.

Courage
Southwoods campers act with bravery. Whether it’s trying new things, going outside of their comfort zone, heading off into the natural world or standing up for what they believe in, our campers learn by example to take leaps of faith and act with a lion heart.
Community
Southwoods is more than a fun place to spend a summer; it’s a community of people from all walks of life, cultures, races, religions, and locations. Southwoods campers learn to embrace people different from them, the ecosystems that make up their natural community, and celebrate the beautiful variety our world has to offer.
Curiosity
At Southwoods, we believe it’s not enough to know “how” and encourage our campers to always ask “why?”. Campers are given space to ask questions, to explore, invent, create, and truly understand the world around them.

Staff Time Off
Counselor Staff get one period off a day and alternating evenings out of cabin. Staff all receive one day off per week (excluding the first and last week of camp) and one evening off per week. Support Staff work 40 hour weeks. When they are not scheduled, they can have time off while remaining on camp. Support Staff receive the same one day and one night off per week as Counselor Staff.
