Camp Overview
Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA offers a variety of camp experiences! Ranging from overnight to day programs. Each week of camp will have different themes and activities offered, based on the camp type, location and theme. GSHPA will run two camp programs for staff during 2022, a resident camp focus program and a traveling camp focus program! Our resident camp program is based out of Camp Small Valley, located in central Pennsylvania, 30 minutes north of Harrisburg. Participants in this program will reside at Camp Small Valley for the duration of the program. Our day camps, family camps, and troop Camps are located at our other three camp properties located near Scranton PA, Gettysburg PA, and Lancaster PA. Participants in this traveling program will reside at Camp Small Valley during staff training. Then will move to our three other camp properties throughout the four weeks, and return to Camp Small Valley at the end of the season. Traveling staff will reside on one camp property for 1-2 weeks before moving to the next property for another camp session.
During the camp season, Girl Scouts can sign up for a variety of activities, depending on the camp property. These include but are not limited to; archery, arts and crafts, swimming, climbing tower, high and low ropes courses, hiking, STEM programs, nature-oriented classes, field games, sports, and so much more! Meals are taken together three times per day, campers and staff. Our goal is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place!
STAFF TIME OFF
All staff members receive 24 hours off every two weeks in no less than 12 hour blocks. Other time off is granted as the schedule permits. Staff will have off most Saturdays and blocks of time each day.
STAFF QUALITIES
We look for open-minded, creative, enthusiastic camp staff who love to work with girls of all ages in the outdoors! We do train all staff in CPR/First Aid/AED (if they do not have an equivalent). We train specializing staff in relevant skills such as; adventure (high ropes, low ropes, climbing) training, lifeguard training, and archery facilitation. We are a Girl Scout Camp and as such we follow the Girl Scout law and traditions.
