Camp Overview

Camp Red Leaf, Inc. a division of Camp Nageela Midwest, Inc. Host year-round recreational & educational programs for  children & adults (ages 9-99) with physical, developmental, and cognitive disabilities and/or special needs. Camp Red Leaf is a non-for-profit organization in Lake County, IL serving the Chicagoland, Northwest suburban and Southern Wisconsin communities.Camp Red Leaf provides guidance to campers through decision making, encouraging independence, promoting and modeling positive behaviors, and assisting campers with their personal health care and lifestyle routines. Our experienced and caring staff along with almost 200 acres of beautiful camp property provides a safe, fun and engaging environment to learn, grow and make memories that will last a lifetime!

During their time off, staff are able to spend their time in the den, our main common area and outside around the grounds. They are also able to walk the grounds and explore. We do share the grounds with another camp so at times there are limits to ensure everyone's safety and comfortability. Most camp facilities that are not used will be locked and those that are used by the other camp would be off limits during their sessions. Anything that involves water or other safety measures will be limited and require the proper supervision (lifeguard, program staff, etc) but will still be accessible.

In town there are multiple options for dining and experiencing American cuisine. In a nearby city Gurnee about 20 minutes away  there is a Six Flags amusement park and a mega mall. There are also local movie theaters, bowling alleys, go karts, arcades, lakes, boating, and more! Staff are free to travel via train into the city of Chicago for a better experience of city life. They have several sports venues, art museums, sights, and attractions there as well as shopping and dining of course.

Staff Time Off

Staff have time off 4 nights out of our 6 day week during the hours of 9:30pm-12:30am. All staff have at least 1-2 nights per week where they are assigned duty so during that time they are supervising campers in the evening. Staff also have time off once camp ends each week from Friday afternoon until they are to report back for duty Sundays by noon. Once hired, staff will learn more about time off for personal reasons or sick leave, bereavement, etc.

Staff Qualities

Camp Red Leaf is looking for staff who are looking to make a difference in the lives of their campers. The work we do at CRL is hard but so rewarding, so we need staff who want to work at a special needs camp and who understand the job requires personal care for our campers. Mature, loving, hardworking, supportive, passionate, diligent, and fun workers! We work so closely with one another, that we look for staff who work collaboratively and well with a group of peers. Staff who are professional and respectable. Staff who are looking for a life changing summer that will be filled with the most loving campers. No previous special needs work necessary, we will train our staff in all aspects of the job, but we can't train commitment and love for our campers, so we need staff coming in with that perspective. Also camp is so fun so we want fun people working here!
