Camp Overview
In 2023 Rising Treetops at Oakhurst (formerly Camp Oakhurst) will have a nine week summer camp program for children and adults with disabilities. The first week will be for adults (ages 26 and up) and the next two weeks for young adults (ages 23-35) and then two 2-week sessions of youth (ages 8-25). In August there are two separate 5-day sessions for children and adults diagnosed with autism. Campers are grouped according to age, not disability. We have six camper cabins, each housing up to twelve campers. Trained counselors provide physical care assistance and support to campers throughout the day. The camper to counselor ratio is on average 2 to 1 and there is 24-hour nursing coverage on site. The daily camper activities include swimming, sports/recreation, arts/crafts, music, drama, cooking, media arts, and nature. Our 15-acre facility is barrier-free with 7 acres of woods including trails and a fire pit, and is one mile from Atlantic Ocean beaches and boardwalks.
STAFF TIME OFF
2 one hour breaks per day, 2 days off at end of each camp session, and two 1-week breaks in August when outside rental groups take over the camp (and staff can also volunteer to work for extra pay for the rental groups).
STAFF QUALITIES
Compassionate, dedicated, caring and team players, and a willingness to provide full personal care to our campers with disabilities.
