What Phone Providers Do Camp America Participants Recommend?

Using Your Phone at Camp 2

Mobile Phone Options Recommended by Camp America Participants

The best advice comes from people who've already done it.

We asked returning Camp America participants which mobile providers, eSIMs and phone setups they used during their summers in the USA, and which ones they'd recommend to future participants.

While there wasn't one option that worked for everyone, a few providers and eSIMs came up repeatedly in the feedback.

The Most Recommended Mobile Options

Based on recommendations from returning Camp America participants, these were the options mentioned most often:

Option

   Why participants recommended it

Mint Mobile

Affordable plans, unlimited data and reliable coverage

Airalo

   Flexible eSIM with easy top-ups

eSIMs

Quick setup and access to a US number

T-Mobile

   Reliable coverage across the USA

Tello

   Flexible and easy to manage

Holafly

Alternative eSIM option mentioned by participants

Not every participant recommended the same provider, and that's completely normal. The best option depends on your camp location, budget and travel plans.

Which Mobile Provider Was Recommended Most Often?

While several options were mentioned, Mint Mobile came up more than any other provider in participant feedback.

Returners frequently highlighted:

  • Affordable summer plans
  • Unlimited data options
  • Easy setup
  • Good value for money
  • Reliable coverage throughout the summer

That said, other participants preferred Airalo or alternative eSIM providers, while some recommended T-Mobile or Tello depending on where they were based.

Why Do Participants Recommend Getting an eSIM?

One of the strongest themes in the feedback wasn't actually a specific provider - it was getting an eSIM.

Participants liked eSIMs because they:

  • Can be activated quickly
  • Don't require a physical SIM card
  • Make it easy to stay connected as soon as you arrive
  • Often provide access to a US phone number

Several participants also mentioned that having a US number was useful for things like deliveries, bookings and setting up services while in America.

What Returners Had to Say

💬 Charlie
"The Mint Mobile eSIM was a good option for the summer as the coverage was always fantastic."

💬 Sophie
"I saw so many people from past years using Mint Mobile for their camp experience."

💬 Kira
"Mint Mobile offered great value and made it easy to stay connected throughout the summer."

Things Returners Wish They Knew

A few useful lessons came through in the feedback.

One participant switched from Mint Mobile to Airalo after Mint didn't work well in their location.

Another participant found T-Mobile coverage better than AT&T where they were based.

One participant chose not to get a SIM because camp had Wi-Fi, but later regretted it when travelling away from camp after the summer.

The takeaway? Even if your camp has good Wi-Fi, having mobile data can make life much easier when you're travelling, exploring or spending time away from camp.
