If you've been watching the World Cup this summer, you've probably noticed something...

Yes, there's been incredible football. But the moments everyone seems to be sharing aren't about the matches. They're about America.

Scottish fans taking over Boston. Ecuadorian supporters turning the streets of New York into a carnival of colour. Americans joining in, asking questions, sharing recommendations, taking photos and making visitors feel at home. It's been joyful.

And every time another video appears on our feed, we find ourselves smiling.

Because this is the America we've been lucky enough to experience for more than 50 years.
 

The America We Know

For many people, America is a place they know through headlines.

We've been lucky enough to know another side.

For more than 50 years, we've sent young people to American summer camps. Year after year, they come home talking about exactly the same thing.

The people.

The camp director who welcomed them from day one. The American counsellor who became their best friend. The children who couldn't wait to hear about life in another country. The camp that stopped feeling like a workplace and started feeling like home.

The Thanksgiving invitations. Road trips. Baseball games. Fourth of July celebrations. The feeling that they weren't just visiting America - they were part of it.

That's the America we've come to know.

Warm. Welcoming. Curious. Generous.

An America that doesn't just invite you to visit. It invites you in.

Every summer, American camps welcome international staff not because they expect everyone to be the same, but because they know camp is richer when everyone brings something different.

Children grow up learning about the world from the people living, working and laughing alongside them every day.

And for many participants, camp becomes more than just the place they spent a summer. It becomes the place they found a second family.
 

America Wants to Meet You Too

One of the biggest surprises for first-time participants is that while they're excited to discover America, they don't expect America to be just as interested in discovering them.

At camp, your accent becomes a conversation starter. Your traditions become something to celebrate. Your favourite food becomes something everyone wants to try. Your stories become part of someone else's childhood.

American summer camps don't ask international staff to leave their culture behind. They ask them to bring it with them.

That's why International Day is one of the highlights of the summer. Flags come out, favourite foods are shared, traditions come to life and every member of staff has the chance to share a little piece of home.

Because camp has always believed that sharing cultures doesn't divide people. It brings them together.

We've Seen This Before

Watching the World Cup has felt strangely familiar.

Cities embracing visitors. People celebrating their differences instead of hiding them. Strangers becoming friends.

It feels just like camp.

Every summer, thousands of Camp America participants from more than 30 countries experience that same version of America.

Welcoming. Curious. Open-hearted. The kind of place where people don't stay strangers for very long.
 

The Story We've Been Telling All Along

For more than 50 years, we've watched campfires bring together people from every corner of the world.

We've watched children grow up with role models from countries they'll one day dream of visiting. We've watched American and international staff become lifelong friends. We've watched people arrive as strangers and leave feeling like family.

So while the World Cup has introduced millions of people to a side of America they perhaps weren't expecting...

We can't help but smile.

Because we've seen it every summer.

An America that opens its arms.

An America that's curious about the world.

An America that believes different cultures make every experience richer.

An America where strangers become friends and friendships last a lifetime.

It's the America we've been lucky enough to know for over 50 years.

And it's the reason we keep coming back.
