The Ultimate Social Media Detox

Living in a world so consumed by social media and online presence, summer camp offers a rare chance to step away from it all. It’s an opportunity to embrace nature, live in the moment, and connect with people in real life rather than through a screen.

At camp, your days are filled with activities, conversations, and new experiences. Before you even realise it, your phone stops being a priority. Instead, your focus shifts to learning about different cultures, picking up new skills, and genuinely connecting with the people around you. It becomes about slowing down, being present, and giving your attention span the reset it didn’t know it needed.

Many camps encourage staff to keep their phones away during working hours, helping everyone stay fully engaged with campers. Without the constant pull of notifications or the temptation to scroll, you naturally lean into conversations, step outside your comfort zone, and build real confidence. What’s interesting is that even during time off, a lot of people choose to stay off their phones - making the most of the “camp bubble” while it lasts.

Stepping away from social media also gives you space to form your own opinions and experiences, without the noise of constant outside influence. You start to see things for yourself, connect more deeply, and appreciate what’s right in front of you.

Of course, social media still has its place - especially for staying in touch with people back home. But at camp, it becomes something you dip into occasionally, not something that defines your day.
