September has that fresh-start feeling.
New term. New timetable. New routines. Maybe a new uni, new course or new housemates. And probably a promise to yourself that this is the year you’re actually going to stay organised.
So while you’re getting everything else sorted, there’s one pretty exciting thing you can get moving too:
Summer 2027 in the USA.
It might feel early. But getting started now means you can get your application moving, get interviewed and put something seriously good in the calendar.
Start now. Thank yourself next summer.
We know next summer probably isn't top of your September to-do list.
But once uni, college, work, deadlines and everything else kick in, the months move pretty quickly.
The good news? You don't need to have your whole summer figured out right now.
You don't need to know which camp you'll work at. You don't need to know exactly what role you'll do. And you definitely don't need to know who you'll be going with.
You just need to start.

Meet Sophie. She went to camp for five summers, worked at Camp America and has now been interviewing applicants for 10 years.
She joined Zoe and George on The Summer Camp Rookie to talk all things interviews, camp and careers — including what to expect from your interview and how to prepare.

Her top tips are pretty simple:
Be prepared. Find somewhere quiet. Bring your questions. Wear something you're comfortable in. And be yourself.
She also recommends telling your interviewer about experiences you might not think are important. Volunteering, hobbies or something you did years ago could all tell us more about the skills you'd bring to camp.
Oh, and maybe don't cut your toenails during the call.

Keep your options open
One more tip from someone who's done a lot of interviews: don't decide too early exactly what your camp experience has to look like.
There are loads of different types of camps across America, and being open to them could lead you somewhere you hadn't considered.
Sophie knows that first-hand. She ended up working at a camp for children from disadvantaged backgrounds - something she hadn't originally pictured for herself - and describes it as life-changing and the best thing she ever did.
Sometimes the summer you didn't plan is the one you need.
More than something to look forward to
Getting camp in the calendar gives you something pretty great to aim for next summer.
But what you get from it can go much further than that.
Leadership. Communication. Confidence. Problem-solving. Resilience.
At camp, you're constantly working with people, taking responsibility and dealing with situations you couldn't exactly practise in a lecture hall.
Those experiences become stories you can take into future job interviews, applications and whatever you decide to do next.
So yes, you're planning an amazing summer.
You're also doing something for future you.
