How to have the most Americanised Halloween

22.10.20

Pumpkin Patch

If you haven’t already (and restrictions allow), get yourself down to a local pumpkin patch. This is most definitely becoming a craze here in the UK and is the perfect opportunity to set yourself up for the rest of our Americanised Halloween ideas! It’s not the cheapest way to get your hands on a pumpkin but there’s certainly something fun about trudging through a field and twisting and turning each pumpkin to see its unique shape and colour! Don’t forget to posing for some autumnal photos to join in with the trend on social!!

Pumpkin Carving

Now, you can get involved by just carving the classic eyes, nose, mouth, but we’re talking Americans turning their pumpkins into a pure form of art! Think, carving words…scenery…animals…celebrities - get creative and make your pumpkin stand out from the crowd!! It may seem like a lot of effort, but it’ll be worth it and you’ll get top bragging likes on your social media. Or, if you’re lazy, follow the label trend and stick a decorative spooky label on it…it’s definitely easier and cleaner!
*Top Tip* Pinterest will be your most inspirational friend!

Door/House displays

After all that time spent picking the pumpkin and carving your design, make sure it goes on display! Admit it, us Brits typically leave our pumpkins on display for ‘our eyes only’ in our living rooms or by our fireplace….we often don’t even carve it…our pumpkins are quite literally just bought for the sake of us being that tiny bit involved with Halloween celebrations! Not anymore. Get those carved pumpkins, autumnal wreaths and all things spooky on display at your door and window - give people something to look at as they pass...it may not look as good as Brooklyn Brownstones, but it’s a start.

Pumpkin spice and everything nice!

Then there’s the food and drinks, what we’re all here for! Make use of all that patch picked, half carved pumpkins and make yourself some iconic Halloween treats that are on every Americans autumnal menu! Try some homemade Pumpkin Pie or soup, OR head to your local cafe and supermarkets, pumpkin spice is definitely making an appearance in everyday foods such as Bagels, muffins and coffees!!
