More Than a Summer Job: 56% of Camp America Alumni Say It Influenced Their Career

23.06.26

From Camp To Your Career

Most people apply to Camp America for the adventure.

A summer in the USA. New experiences. New friendships. The chance to do something completely different.

But what happens after camp?

To find out, we surveyed more than 250 former Camp America participants about the lasting impact of their experience.

The results suggest that Camp America delivers much more than a memorable summer.

More than half of respondents (56%) said their Camp America experience influenced their career choices, while many credited the programme with helping them develop the skills, confidence and independence that continue to benefit them today.

Camp America Develops the Skills Employers Want

When alumni were asked which skills they developed through Camp America, the results closely matched the qualities most employers look for when hiring graduates and young professionals.

The top responses were:

  • Communication – 82%
  • Teamwork – 80%
  • Resilience – 80%
  • Adaptability – 79%
  • Leadership – 78%
  • Confidence – 75%
  • Problem Solving – 69%
  • Cross-Cultural Communication – 63%

These are skills that are difficult to develop in a classroom but are essential in modern workplaces.

At camp, participants build them through real responsibility, working with children, collaborating with international teams and adapting to new situations every day.

Confidence and Independence Matter

Employability isn't just about technical skills.

Confidence plays a huge role in interviews, networking, leadership and career progression.

Alumni rated the impact Camp America had on:

  • Confidence: 8.0/10
  • Independence: 8.1/10

For many participants, camp is their first experience of living and working abroad, taking responsibility for others and navigating unfamiliar situations independently.

These experiences help build the self-belief that supports future success.

The Impact Lasts Beyond Summer

The strongest message from the survey was that the benefits of Camp America don't end when summer does.

More than half of alumni said the experience influenced their career choices.

Whether that's through discovering new interests, developing leadership skills or gaining confidence in their own abilities, many participants continue to draw on lessons learned at camp years later.

More Than a Summer

Camp America will always be about adventure, travel and unforgettable memories.

But this survey highlights something equally important.

For many participants, Camp America is also a powerful development experience - one that helps build confidence, strengthen employability skills and shape future career paths.

And that's an impact that lasts far longer than a single summer.
