Why Camp America?

I have no clue where I first heard about Camp America, but I don’t remember a time where I didn’t want to do it. Always a dream! I applied because, in the cheesiest way possible, I wanted to live out the American summer camp dream like I’d seen in movies – and that’s exactly what it ended up being!

Favourite summer camp memory?

Some of my favourite camp moments were in the dining room – impromptu singing & dancing whilst eating. Neil Diamond was a camper at my camp back in the day, so Sweet Caroline was the best camp song! Other stand out moments include time spent on the lake, overnights camping in the mountains or on the basketball courts, and days off swimming in the Hudson and eating (the best ever) pizza.

Camp was special because it was genuinely one of those picture perfect moments – I felt like I was living in a movie. I was part of the bigger picture, supporting kids to have the summer of a lifetime and the relationships I built with them were so special. It was a slog at times (sleep deprivation is real!), but it was the most fun I’ve ever had.

What did Camp America teach you?

I learned a lot from camp, and it reinforced so many values – patience, how to be a good leader, how important it is learn about and share diverse culture, and how special friendships are, whether they’re brief, deep or just for fun. But most importantly, I learned how to be in the moment & just have fun!

A piece of advice...

Camp friends are the best friends. There’s something incredibly special about the bond you build at camp – you truly become everything for one another of those few months, and you live out the ride side by side. Don’t take it for granted – make best friends!
