What role did you do at camp?

I work at Camp Birch Trail in Wisconsin and my first summer was 2017 as the head of climbing and a counsellor! Fast forward to summer 2022 when I became evening program director which was a huge achievement and to my current role as media director!

Favourite camp memory?

I have sooo many special memories at camp from the past 10 years, its so hard to choose favourites, but my overall favourite thing is the people I've shared these memories with along the way! I've made so many incredible friends, who most are no longer still at camp with me now but have still had a huge impact on my life and I still talk to to this day! From running every night to the dock to watch the sunset, stargazing and holding hands whilst we watch as color wars gets announced - these people are some of the closest in my life and I can't imagine who I would be or where I would be without them.

What did Camp America teach you?

Camp has taught me so much but most importantly given me the confidence to be myself. Working at an all girls summer camp around strong, intelligent and adventurous women has empowered me to be brave enough to take on any challenges camp or life throws at me! Camp has made me resilient, patient and an all round better human!

My whole career and life has been shaped by Camp America. In 2020 I first stepped into my role in the Camp America head office as an applications assistant and after covid made my return in 2021 as part of the marketing team!  Working in the office I made so many amazing friends from other camps and in 2023 decided to make the move to Australia with one of those best friends! Since then In between my summers at camp I have done a ski season in France and Japan! Even my closest friends in Japan had worked on summer camps! None of these opportunities would have happened if it wasn't for my summers at camp and the connections I have made through Camp America!

Where did you travel to after camp?

I am super lucky that I have travelled a lot after camp! My favourite places to travel to are definitely the national parks and I love a road trip! My favourite parks are Yosemite, Glacier and Zion! One of my favourite trips was when my brother also did Camp America in 2019 and we road tripped the West Coast of America - never did I ever think I would end up on a party bus with my baby brother in Las Vegas!

A piece of advice...

One piece of advice for someone their first summer would be to just don't be afraid to feel everything - the highs at camp are so so high but there's also going to be super hard days too! Leaving home to go to camp your first summer is scary but that feeling of anxiety will disappear so quickly the second you arrive at camp and are surrounded by all your new friends! The hardest thing you will have to do at camp is leave at the end of the summer so make every single second count - say yes to everything, don't be scared to look silly and never miss an opportunity to try something new. The more you throw yourself into the experience the better summer you will have!
