What made you choose to do Camp America?

I decided to apply for camp to learn about new cultures and to have some independence going away for the summer not knowing anyone, and it was the best time ever. You simply slot in with other internationals as well as local staff. Attending an all girls camp taught me the art of patience & unpicking drama that can occur! I have used all my knowledge from camp life to help with my career since in Primary Education, I still use the team building games today as well as the camp songs!! My role for both summers was a Unit Head and it was the best experience of my life! I have since become a Mum to beautiful boy and cannot wait to share my camp stories with him.

Favourite camp memory?

Camp life is genuinely like no other, coming into camp, I had years of experience with the younger children, so quickly became known as the “Brownie Whisperer” as I had record time getting my Brownies to bed!! I truly made friends for life and have kept in contact with all my Camp family. One of my favourite Camp Moms made a beautiful handmade blanket and sent it from New York to England for my Son’s arrival.

What did summer camp teach you?

Camp life taught me the importance of expanding your eyes to see and experience new things, and how to accommodate and change to things around you and to soak it all in.

A piece of advice...

If I could give one person thinking about applying to Camp America, I’d say take the opportunity with both hands, you will never regret it. Camp life and family is forever and will teach you things about yourself that you didn’t know before. It can seem daunting but the nerves will soon go, you’re too busy during staff week and trying & learning about crazy American cuisine & lingo!
