What role did you do at camp?

I’ve spent my last two summers at YMCA Camp Cullen in Trinity Texas Two of the best summers of my life. I was an overnight counsellor but was also ropes counsellor. 

Favourite camp memory?

I can’t choose a favourite memory but every Sunday was my favourite day of the week. The chaos of the kids arriving to camp and learning or wacky ways to Sunday chant offs. Kids get placed in a house based on their wonderful attributes and we have a chant off. Who can be the loudest but also the best sportsmanship. Getting the kids all painted up and showing them a little family they will always be apart of. ONCE YOUR IN THAT HOUSE, THERE IS NO CHANGING. Teaching them the chants and making them feel apart of something is so important. They have contributed to their house hopefully winning the house cup at the end of summer. 

Where did you travel to after camp?

After camp my favourite place to go was Nashville. The country music and don’t get me started on the boots was magical. Memories that will stick with me forever. 

What did summer camp teach you?

Camp taught me to never change. We are so strong and confident, we just need good people around us to give us that push to show it more. Also to be so carefree, sometimes things go wrong. WHO CARES. You can’t change the weather but you can adapt. Enjoy every moment. The friends I made at camp are my forever friends. I speak to them all the time and know me inside out. We are family forever and the only ones who have experienced this crazy journey. 

I always know there is a place for me at camp for when I’m ready to go back after a bit of travelling and the staff are there to support my decisions.

A piece of advice...

My one bit of advice for everyone who wants to do this. BE YOURSELF AND ENJOY EVERY MOMENT. You can get sleep back but you will never get this experience again!!!

Camp and Camp America changed my life. Thanks to both I have the opportunity to work on cruise ships and go to other amazing countries. JUST DO IT (as Nike says 😂😂)
