Camp is amazing for your CV as it demonstrates your willingness to take a risk to develop your own personal growth.
Leaving England to go to a foreign country and work at a summer camp where you probably don’t know anybody, is a daunting thought; but by taking the leap you come out of the experience with a broadened horizon on life and it allows you to push your own boundaries further. This is a fantastic attribute to employers as it shows your willingness to grow.
Being at camp helped me adapt more towards American culture which has been a huge help, now I live in America and I work as an
acrobatic performer in Las Vegas, on the show Le Rêve - the Dream. Although England and America are both English speaking western countries we are very different in culture and it is important to acknowledge that. I learnt how to manage a successful program along with having counsellors that I was in charge of within the program area. It was a fantastic experience!
Not only are you being exposed to a completely different culture you are going to make memories that will last a lifetime and only the counsellors you share that experience with will understand what that truly means and that makes it even more special.
I will take away from camp; the love that people had for each other and the bonds that were made. Hearing the stories of individuals around the camp fire and truly changing the lives of the children that go to starlight. You may have doubts about taking the leap...we all do before that very first summer. But know that when you leave camp on the very last day, you will have nothing but stories and memories that will last a life time. And that is something that I only hope you can experience.
