Green Chimneys School based over both campus’ Hillside and Clearpool, offers academic and social summer programming to allow students with social-emotional needs, learning disabilities and psychiatric needs to review previously learned materials to help from losing ground over the summer. Programming incorporates academics and includes elements of outdoor learning, in an educational setting where students "learn by doing." A variety of engaging activities include cooking/baking, hiking, boating, ropes and challenge courses, and other exciting nature-based activities in addition to reading, math and traditional academics. Social skills and interpersonal communication are addressed in everything done at Green Chimneys. Green Chimneys is home to over 300 farm animals including horses, donkeys, goats, pigs along with others, as well as unreleasable wildlife who play a tremendous role with the children’s learning. Green Chimneys has based its philosophy of care on the belief that if children are given a chance to explore and discover their inherent strengths in a safe, structured, nature-based environment, their self-esteem, compassion, coping and social skills will improve.
