Camp Overview
Horizons is a non-profit, special needs camp located in South Windham, Connecticut dedicated to children and adults with developmental disabilities. We are committed to providing an excellent, fun summer to our campers, no matter their ability level. Our campers are diverse individuals from different backgrounds and have a wide range of abilities.
We do all of the traditional activities you would find at most camps, including swimming, arts, crafts, sports, music, etc. Our summer is broken up into 4 two-week long sessions and an additional week of training at the beginning of camp.
In addition to our campers, we hire about 150 staff in all positions, nearly a third of which are international and come from all across the globe! We typically have about 15-20 countries represented among our staff each year. We are an eclectic team and love new cultures and diversity. We know our staff are our greatest resource, and make our summer's worthwhile!
Horizons' does not require experience with working with individuals with disabilities, just an open-mind and a willingness to learn and have fun. We provide a week of training before campers arrive to prepare you for the summer.
STAFF TIME OFF
Staff receive three 24-hour days off and two 12-hour nights off of your choosing over each two-week session. Additionally, we take a 5-day period off in the middle of July for all staff.
STAFF QUALITIES
We look for staff with a can-do attitude, a good demeanor, and a willingness to learn and have fun! We have a week of training prior to campers arriving. Experience with individuals with disabilities is not required.
