Embassy appointment

by keiran2559 » 18 May 2014, 22:21

My embassy appointment is 8 am on Tuesday, so im leaving to travel at 4 am, meaning I have a long and tedious journey and im going alone therefore I need to take my phone in case I get lost or need directions. But I have read that you cant take your phone into the embassy, can anyone offer any advice or a solution?

That was true last year but the rules have changed - you can now take electronics into the embassy as long as they are small. Laptops are too big, I can't remember where tablets fall and anything smaller than a tablet is fine. You'll just need to put it in a plastic bag or a rucksack when you go through security.

The security is like airport security, but they don't make you take your shoes off and you can take liquids but not large electronic items.

I don't know where you are travelling from, but at the moment the central line (red) trains are not stopping at Bond Street tube station, so if you're using the central line you need to go to Marble Arch and walk from there.

The process is really simple. If it is anything like London, you'll go in through security first - just like airport security - and then you'll be given a ticket with a number on. Wait for your number to be called out and go to the desk you're told to go to. Someone will look over your paperwork and take scans of your finger prints, and then you'll be told to go to another desk where they'll take your paperwork off you, confirm your fingerprints again and just ask you a few simple questions such as- have you ever been to America on a J1 before, what you're going to be doing in America etc...

I think the biggest misconception is that there is some sort of interview involved... There is no sit down interview or closed room interview.
