Counsellor
A1 All-rounders!
There's no need to panic - counsellors have nothing to do with psychology, psychiatry or therapy of any description! 'Counsellor' is the term given to the people on camp who are in charge of the campers' general well-being and ensure that the kids get to enjoy all their activity sessions safely. It's likely that you'll end up taking part in many of the activities, so while you don't need to be an expert, a have-a-go attitude is essential - on a typical day you could find yourself jumping from tennis, to archery, to pottery, to finding yourself being dragged across a lake on one of those inflatable banana things! You'll also find you take a full and active role in the general areas of camp - looking after a table of kids at meal times, performing skits at the flagpole and singing round the camp fire, will complete your day.
And the role doesn't end once the kids are in bed - Counsellors often take on the role of 'bunk counsellors' - they'll sleep in with & take charge of a cabin of kids. So if you have great childcare experience, but less activity experience, and you fancy taking charge of your own tribe for the summer this could be for you!
"This was my first summer but I have made some life long friends... you get along so well with all the other counsellors, because you're all there for the same reason and you are all the same kind of person; up for a laugh, work well as a team, are responsible and positive!" - Martin, UK
