Youth Leadership Award
The International Youth Leader Award not only gives girls aged 18+ an increased chance of placement but it also provides them with a learning platform to develop valuable skills and experience that employers look for, in potential employees. The programme comprises online modules, which you'll complete in your own time, and it also includes a residential weekend in April 2012 that teaches you practical skills and mimics the camp environment. 2010 was the inaugural year of IYLA and, as our previous participants attest, it was a rip-roaring success!!
"Camp America’s International Youth Leadership Award is a great way to receive an extracurricular award, which only requires a little of your spare time to participate in. It is a great opportunity that allows you in some ways to choose which camp you think you are best suited and which the Camp Directors think you are best suited, whereas the other applicants aren’t given this . The participants last year all had the chance to meet other International Staff members who they would spend their summer working with through a Facebook group and a weekend away in Oxford for training. This weekend away was very helpful in preparing me for my work in America and was a fun weekend in which I made a lot of friends. The programme has been put together for girls to facilitate their acceptance to a Girl Scout environment and, by taking part in the programme, participants can meet Camp Directors face-to-face at our invite only event - where you can GET HIRED ON THE SPOT! 14 camps (from Colorado, Virginia, New York, San Diego and Indiana) will be here on October 19th to meet our participants and they'll be hoping to leave with some new and enthusiastic staff members for summer 2012!!
The facilities on these camps are first-class and there's tons to get involved in; such as ropes course, rock climbing, sailing, canoeing, horse-riding, archery & lifeguarding - to name only a few. Once you've applied to the programme you'll be provided with a detailed list of the camps in attendance and you can target which camp you'd prefer placement at; based on the skills the activities they offer and what feels right for you!

During camp, as part of the module, participants are given the responsibility to showcase what they've learned from the programme; by hosting evening activities and creating their own activities and schedule for the campers and staff to enjoy. Participants will also receive a Certificate of Completion, which can be included on your CV and used as evidence of experience and ability in future employment opportunities!
