What Is Camp America?
Over the years, the phrase ‘Camp America’ has become synonymous with young people spending the summer working in the USA. Even when people do things and go places that we don’t, they tell their friends “I did Camp America” – and that tells you just how popular our programme has become.
Make no mistake, however... You will not get the ‘Camp America’ experience with any other company other than Camp America!
Since 1969, we’ve sent over 200,000 young people to work on camps spread all throughout the USA. Summer camp in America is a massive tradition and we believe there is nothing more culturally unique. It’s estimated there are 12,000 camps spread all over the country and each summer some 11 million children and adults will attend camp.
At camp, participants can work directly with American children; by instructing or assisting them in activities, or even work behind the scenes as support staff – in roles such as kitchen and maintenance. Given the fact we work with hundreds of different types of camps and place thousands of people, there are opportunities available for everyone. Camp is a truly international environment and you’ll make friends with people from all corners of the globe – meaning you’ll have unbelievably good fun travelling with them after camp and then visiting them in their own country.
So... Whether you’re absolutely brand-spanking new to Camp America , or are one of these people who’s brother, sister, cousin, friend or friend-of-friend has been on our programme – here’s everything you need to know about us:
We’re the biggest and best summer camp provider!
Every summer we send roughly 7,000+ young people to work at camp, in all 50 states of the USA. We’re the best and most experienced at what we do, and send far more young people to camp than any other summer camp provider.
We’re the Real Deal!
With Camp America, everything you need to get to the USA is taken care of – and you won’t have to worry about the logistics of getting to camp. Our package is the best in the business and includes return flights to New York, a meet & greet in the US, 1 nights stay in our arrivals hotel & transport assistance to camp. Whilst at camp, all your food & accommodation is provided and you’re also covered by comprehensive medical support for your entire stay. Most importantly, the J-1 visa you’ll need to work in the United States will be sponsored directly by us as, unlike many other summer camp providers, we’re designated visa sponsors by the State Department of the USA.
We’re upfront & honest!
We do our very best to be as transparent & truthful with all aspects of our programme! This means that we don’t hide what you’ll pay as an applicant or what you’ll earn at the end of camp, unlike some other companies. We’re also upfront about the fact that our programme is not, and shouldn’t be, about making money for the summer. What we’re more concerned with is providing our applicants with a uniquely-cultural experience – so, if you’re looking to make some American dollar, you’ve come to wrong place.
Not only have the majority of our staff been to summer camp themselves, but we’re also owned by one of the world’s biggest providers of cultural exchange; The American Institute for Foreign Study. When it comes to supporting our applicants, no one can rival us – and we pride ourselves on the fantastic level of service we give you throughout the entire application process. Before you even get to the US, whether it’s on the phone, by email, in person, on Facebook, Twitter or our applicant forum – we’ll get your question answered as quickly as possible and keep your application moving forward. The help doesn’t stop when you touch down in the USA, as you’ll supported 24/7 by our US office, which is based in Connecticut. When stuff at camp doesn’t go as planned (and it doesn’t from time-to-time) you better hope that it’s Camp America that’s supporting you – whether that’s a volcanic ash cloud, freak weather or airport closure.
We look great on your CV!
In a time where it’s increasingly difficult for young people to find jobs after college and university, having the phrase Camp America in the Experience section of your CV is going to really boost your employment prospects. The reason for this is that summer camp is going to provide you with what academics call Employability skills – and these include leadership, teamwork, organisation and problem solving. Google the phrase ‘employability skills’ and you’ll understand the importance of developing these, which we can help you with. Furthermore, any future employer is likely to recognise our name over any other summer camp provider!
