Hey guys if you haven't done so already check out the forums. Returners like myself can help you with questions you may have about camp or visa's or medicals etc. While CA are being mobbed with e-mails it takes them a while to get back and its maybe something we could help you with.

well good news folks, i finally passed my driving test!! I failed once again since the last blog - BUT who cares!? i have a driving license - and its pink! thats right, not green :D

watch out hamilton theres a new driver in town.

America is like only 4 weeks 5 days away - which i suppose is kinda late since people are there now. thats strange isnt it? im looking out my window and its grey and miserable, and thinking in 5 WEEKS I will actually be in long island - the sun will (hopefully) be shining (i mean it will be june) and I will probably be lobster red already.

one thing im not lookign forward to is not seeing my boyfriend for 3 months - which is going to suck! but i reckon it'll be fine - i'll get my letter writing skills perfected when i'm out there.

soooo excited!!!

Orientation...

So... I wnt to the orientation in Plymouth yesterday. Was very useful and definitley cleared a lot of things up! Last thing to do now is my visa interview in a couple of weeks and thats everything done!

I finallt got my medical form sorted out on Friday, its only taken me 3 months to find a doctors who will fill out both the Ca form and my one from camp, what a sham! Also had to cough up £120 which is a joke but I had to get them done so theres nothing I can do really!

Ive also got my holdall sorted, its 140litres so I need to see how full I can actually pack it and still be able to lift it! Ive also sorted out my caxton fx card, that came the other day so Im nearly all ready apart from packing nearer the time.

Im still unsure of how many sets of clothes to take for during the day as I know we can do laundry etc but I dont want to run out too quickly! |Especoa;;y as I will only really be able to have them once as Im working withy oung children who like to get veryy messy! I can always rinse things out in the sink I suppose.

Anyway thats mosly everything updated!

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Ive been placed for around a month now and have had a lot to sort out since.

After paying my visa fee, medical insurance and fuel surcharges I got my visa appointment which is the 22nd May and the forms through the post. They look very complex but luckily the powerpoint help they give you is really straight foward and makes the who form filling out process so much easier.

I also have my flight detials, I fly from Heathrow on 20th June at 3:34. And Im with Virgin Atlantic which Im really happy about as I love their planes.

My final thing to do is get my medical form filled out (the doctors are going to charge me £70 ouch!) and pay my baggae insurance fee, then its just making sure I have everything I need to take and packing! Wooo!

Just under 10 weeks until I fly out there, I cant wait!!!

Its All Coming Together...

So after my CAD page changed I payed off the fuel surcharges and visa fees, now all I have to do is pay off the medical insurance and sort out baggage insurance. I phoned up my doctor and they told me it would cost £70 to get my form filled out! I have one from camp as well so I am slightly panicking now as that effectively means £70 less travel money!!

I have been finding out what items I need to bring from the camp returners who have all been very lovely and helpful! I am starting to make a list to add to the item list my camp send me. My visa papers have been printed so I should recieve them in the post shortly and my camp are sending my contract so its all coming together quite nicely now!

Recruitment Fair...

I didnt write a blog straight after the recruitment fair as I didnt want to jinx things!

I attended the London recrutment fair last Sunday 7th March. From what I could make out from the forum, I thought it would be a good idea to get there very early so I had a good chance of talking to lots of camps. I joined the queue at about 9:15 which was good as just after lots of people started showing up!! The time flew by as I was busy talking to people etc and before I knew it we were being let in at 11!

I had spent hours making a list of all the camps that fitted my arrival date (as it is quite late: 20th June, there wernet that many) and started going to those booths. Some had completely changed their arrival date to way earlier in June and the few directors I did talk to told me they weren't hiring any more girls!

I then went to speak to the director of Camp Harlam about the position of Junior/Pre-School counsellor and after a short interview he offered me a place!! I was so shocked/excited/greatful that it all seems like a bit of a blur now! I want to processing and was out of the town hall by 12!! My mum and myself had assumed it would be a long day and didnt think we would be leaving until the doors closed from what everyone on the forum was saying, so I was extremely lucky.

Today my page changed to congratulations!!!! I am so happy I was fed up of signing on to see 'ready to be placed' as I have done every day since mid Spetember!! So now its just making the final payment and getting everything sorted! I cant wait it all seems so real now!!
