Last Night in the UK

Been checking out some of the other blogs on here... seems like so many people are having an amazing time!
Hope things will be as exciting for me over the coming weeks.

I've said most of my goodbyes now and I'm absolutely petrified. Bag is packed, and looks alright but I expect it will be way overweight! Oops.

Feeling dead excited, can't wait to arrive in New Jersey but I'm a little bit nervous about the travelling and the flight tomorrow now.
I'm getting up a little early to do some last minute things and then tubing it to Heathrow.
7 Hour flight!! Scary!

Less than a Month to go!

I can't believe it! Time has gone by so quickly - it only seems like yesterday I was in the queue for the recruitment fair in January! It was four months! And its only a quarter of that time now until I'm on a plane to Newark with the rest of the CNW staff for a 7 week summer in New York state.

Most things are done now. Had my Visa appointment last month and everything went along fine - all the money is paid now apart from my return flight (havn't quite decided what I'm doing there yet!).

I've seen the camp kit list - so many things to remember to pack. I've been to Primark and H&M now buying all the shorts and tops I could find. Just need to get all my cosmetics and stuff now really, and a sleeping bag and a few other things like that.

There are lots of first timers on my flight and we've all been talking on facebook which is nice. Can't decide if I'm more excited or nervous at the moment! Its going to be an insane summer!

Flights!

So I logged on to CA today to find out the flight dates are now confirmed.
I'm heading out to NY on the 20th of June!

I feel a little baffled as some of the other girls I have been taking to from Che-Na-Wah are going out on the 21st though. Will I be too early as I start on the 22nd? Hmmm.

Anyway, its nice to know the flights are being sorted now, it sort of sets everything in place and makes it seem alot more real.

I'm still struggling to pay off all the costs, so I've booked in a bit of overtime here and there at work (my uni bar) to get that all sorted.

I've seen my placement details and it says I need HB immunity so im still trying to find out if I need my hep b jab before I go. Not sure yet but I'm going to try and ask around and see if its necessary as it costs £60!

Started to tell a few more people about Camp now I know its all definate! SO excited :)

"You have been Placed!"

So, yesterday I logged into Camp America Direct and to find out my placement has gone online!

Very excited as it finally seems to be real now!

I popped into the doctor's today and they told me the form is going to cost me £20, but £50 if they then ask me to make a check-up appointment. Fingers crossed they don't!

I know I need the Hep B jab according to the placement page so I'm probably going to have to pay for that too :(

I have started to tell my closest friends that I am going and everyone is really positive which is nice!

I've been speaking to some of the other people heading out to Che-Na-Wah as well, and everyone seems nice and friendly which is great! I've realised how much planning I need to make for this summer. From clothes and forms, to what I'm going to do with all my belongings whilst I'm away from Sheffield. Thinking Big Yellow Self-Storage!

A new fear of CA Direct is also growing, I don't want to look at my outstanding £274 balance!

Recruitment Fair 30th Jan!

So the day started badly, I woke up late and was in a bit of a panic. I didn't have to travel far as I live in London, but I was determined to get there a little earlier as I'd heard stories about notorious queues that lasted for hours.

After arriving, I realised it wasn't going to be so bad after all. Everyone was so friendly, and the queue started moving pretty much straight away. I met some really nice girls in the line and started chatting to them which made the wait go alot faster!
Started queing at 11.20 and we were in two hours later (my feet were a bit frozen but soon thawed off when inside!)

I had a shortlist of camps I wanted to talk to, and headed over to a few of their stands. Most had signs saying what they were or weren't looking for so it was easy enough to narrow down options.

I saw the stand for Camp Baco/Che-Na-Wah and went over as this was in my top two choices. Had a chat with some of the girls there about my experience, and what the camp was like. Straight away I knew this was the camp for me, everyone seemed really close and friendly. I watched a slideshow of pictures from the camp, and had a look at some of the scrapbooks of the councellors and it just looked like a fantastic place to be.  I have lead Arts & Crafts at a kids camp in the UK before, and also with my Brownie unit so felt I would be suited to this position!

I got placed! And left with a cracking smile on my face - I think everyone thought I was a complete loony as I wandered back home on the tube with a big grin.

SO. CAMP CHE-NA-WAH! 201o

I absolutely can't wait! Its going to be fantastic getting artistic and creative with the kids, learning all the songs and being part of camp life. I almost can't believe this is happening, its too good to be true. I keep thinking somebody is going to call me up and tell me there has been a mistake!
I almost won't believe it until I see the confirmation pop up on my Camp America Direct.

I did really feel for those who didn't end up getting placed today, and I hope it all works out for those still waiting to find out where they end up. Everyone was so enthusiastic and definately deserve a place.
Good Luck!

I'm off to sort out my medical forms and all the other paperwork!
