Jess' Camp America Adventure!

This time in 3 months...

This time in 3 months I will have been at my camp for a weekend already...

Wow, time has flown since I decided I wanted to apply for 2011, last May... And here I thought it would take forever to apply and get placed...

So attempting to get my visa done, had the photos taken today, hoping they will be accepted, but can't add them at the moment as my scanner is not connected properly.. tomorrow it is! Then after that, have my appointment and hopefully be told I'm allowed into the US!

Once I have my visa, it will be shopping time! I've tried to restrain myself in buying new stuff, as I really just need to save for flights and travel, but all our summer stock in Aus is reduced to clear! I got a pair of Aussie boardshorts for $4 and 3 pairs of Aussie socks for $5... Also got some shorts and shirts to take with me, that I dont mind if they all get wrecked, planning on dumping half my stuff at camp anyway, so I don't have as much to take travelling!!!

Any returners got tips on packing? What to take, what there's no point in taking, what to buy over there! Much appreciated! xox

Camp Duncan here I come!!!

Well I found out yesterday that I have been placed..

CA had emailed me my time for the Job Day, and I replied asking for an earlier one.. A few hours later I had a missed call from them and rang back once I finished work thinking it would be about my time. A lovely lady named Sarah asked if I realised I'd been placed and therefore did not need to attend the Job Fair.....

OMG I was so excited. Did a bit of a dance once I got off the phone raced to my computer and logged into CAD!!!

So all I want to do now is just pack and go already but I know that I've still got 5 months..

I have been placed at YMCA Camp Duncan, about an hour from Chicago.. Anyone else been placed there???

So excited, and scared, and nervous and ecstatic and on such a high!!!!

Waiting on a phone call...

Posted on 30-Nov-2010 | 1 comments | Link So I get a text message today saying "I was wondering when you were free to chat about camp?"!!!!!

So at the moment I am waiting on this phone call from a lovely sounding lady who is from Camp Midon, in Maine!!!

OMG! Wish me luck! So excited! The camp looks amazing!!!

Worst Day!!!

So I worked today.. Started off ok, but just went downhill!!! So angray and frustrated..

I get home and think maybe I've been placed, that yould make my day so much amazing!
But no.. so I shall remain sad and angry, and have a rage about my day to those in Camp America land!!!

I work at KFC, as I think I've mentioned. The manager I worked with today, normally I get on with, but today he was just rude.

He cancelled other peoples shifts, then complained he didnt have enough people on, he was rude to me, and yelling at me most of the time. He was complaining about me to other staff members, which I happened to overhear, and when he decided that he'd had enough of me and wanted to send me home an hour early, and I said I didnt want to go, he had another manager convince me to go home.. So I drove home in tears, had a shower and got on my blog.. Not sure if I feel better, but I think this has helped.

Thanks for reading!

Well I'm at TAFE today.. pretty boring really, and I'm too tired to pay much attention! It is our last week tho, with a break up class next week! woohoo!

I'm studying Cert IV in Disability, which will qualify me to work as a Disability Support Worker. Probably called something different in the UK, I assume.

Bit more info about me. I work in a Specialist School, as a teacher assistant. I also am training as a Shift Supervisor at KFC, been there 5 years. NAyone on hear work at KFC???

To fill in time while not paying attention at TAFE, I'm looking at flights to America.. Not that I can book anything because I haven't been placed yet! But its fun to imagine, and figure out how much I need to save! Lol. I hate saving! But it'll be definitely worth it!!!

Still waiting...

For some reason I think I was expecting to be placed like that *insert thumb click*

My main skill is working with children who have a disability, so assumed I'd be taken pretty quickly by a special needs camp but as the weeks pass, havent heard anything..

All my friends are like when are you going, whereabouts.. and I'm all like dunno yet!!

But I will stay positive and will get placed, hopefully before Christmas, what an amazing Christmas present that would be!

As I write this blog, I'm getting my 21st invitations organised to start posting/handing out! About 7 weeks left still, but I head to Thailand day after my party and I have my best friends wedding 2 weeks after we get back so need to be super organised!!

I feel better after ranting. thanks CAD!

Well so far I have logged into my account every day for the last week, sometimes more then once! think I'm getting a bit too obsessed!

Who knows what it actually says when you've been placed?

Anyways I went to the dentist today and had to book a check up in 6 months time, and the date was second saturday in May.. I was like wow if I'm lucky I'll be almost on my way to America at that stage! Little bit scary, but oh so exciting!!!

By the way feel free to add me on Facebook! I'd love to get to know fellow CA applicants!

Hi.
I'm Jess. I live in Sale in Australia. I am 20 years old, but will be 21 by the time camp comes around!

I have been waiting to access the participants zone for quite a while now, and this is making the application process so much more real!

I have wanted to travel to the US for as long as I can remember, and am hoping Camp America can make this dream come true! Looking forward to making some new friends!
