being in the woods the dirt in the air irritated my eyes with contacts in so i stuck to my glasses. but take a spare pair.....mine got well an truly mushed by a counselor when i was teaching a swim lesson...was an accident but at least i had my other pair! I guess its down to what you prefer and find more comfortable. maybe take both so you can find for yourself :-) I packed everything in my checked baggage and it was all fine.

i know i couldnt believe it, i never used to have to pay and they keep going on about free sight tests o when i booked it i thought nothing about the cost, when i went to buy one months supply of lenses they charged me £20 for the sight test, £20 for the contact lense fitting and £33 for the lenses i was like whoa! what was the point of a contact lense fitting? i already know how to put them in!!!

I only ever glasses (I have an aversion to touching my eyes and i look better in glasses than not). I only have on pair of them but I have just gotten new lenses in my old frames and I got them coated with scratch resistant coating. I take a hard case with mr for when I have to take them off. When I was swimming and stuff I just went without my glasses even though it meant I couldn't see properly.

Also, regardless of what you are taking remember to take a signed copy of your prescription so that you can get replacements if necessary.

ALso if you really cant get by without your glasses some opticians sell prescription swimming goggles.

I've got All Day All Night continuous wear lenses from Specsavers. I put them in, then take them out a month later and put in the next pair.

The only downside is that because they live in your eye continuously for a month (you sleep in them), you are at greater risk from infection, which means you need to be really careful getting water in your eyes.

That means swimming with them in is a bad idea, and jumping in a lake is a really really bad idea.

Taking them in/out all the time for swimming etc. will be too much hassle to do all the time, so I'll just have to stay dry.

I'll be taking my glasses as well just in case.

I wore those day and night monthly lenses for about a year and got infections all over my eyes just from being around smoke in pubs etc, and had to wear glasses for 4 months as my eyes wouldnt take contacts. They're ok now but dont recommend wearing the nightly ones! I get my contact check ups for free as im on direct debit with them and at specsavers they do it for free if thats the case!

Just FYI rachel it is fine to take Contact lens solution on board the plane as long as it is less than 100ml, in a conatiner of max size 100ml and is put in a resealable plastic bag.

I'm taking about 6 months of contacts just in case but i didn't really have a problem last year. I was a lifeguard/swimming coach so i spent a lot of time in the water. Just buy a really good pair of googles and you'll be fine!

At our orientation we were warned to take 2 pairs of glasses, (or a back up set &/or extra contact lenses if you prefer) basically because healthcare is immensely expensive out there, and it's not as simple as just walking into an opticians and saying "Hey, I need some new glasses."

So, I get insurance on my glasses anyway, and I'm taking a spare pair with me too.

Where did you find insurance for your glasses.

In the past I have only over taken one pair of glasses and that has never been a problem for me.
