Heeey!

I'm Hannah, 22, from Cardiff/at uni in Manchester I worked at Camp Laurel last year as a unit leader and going back this year as a horse riding assistant...can't wait to go back!! :D

I had a great summer last year and it's my last year of uni this year so probably the last chance I'll get to do something like it for a while!

What do you want to know Michelle?! What are you going to be doing at camp??

Ahhh I can't wait to get out there for another summer of sunshine!

xxx

P.S. Tegan, you must be bored missy! Still think you should come back, your 21st in the Log Cabin would be hilarious! haha

P.P.S. The Log Cabin is the local bar, it's full of local country types and we basically take it over every weekend...getting there involves a 30 minute walk along roads with no street lights, as you can imagine the walks back are particuarly messy!! haha

If you love horse riding you'll be pleased to know we've got an 18 horse stable and a lot of forest to go trekking through! yay!! I can't wait. We'll have to get you up there and riding on your time off!

Camp is awesome, it's set in the middle of a lot of forest, the facilities are pretty basic but that means that the running of camp is pretty relaxed and you don't get too many spoilt kids.

We have a big lake to swim in with kyaks, canoes and pedalos and a big dock which is awesome for sunbathing on on your time off!

The tents are pre-bulit tents, raised off the floor with beds and matresses in them, (it's 4 people per tent) it's definately back to basics as there's no electricity at the units but you get used to it very quickly, you share the tent with the other councellors and the kids tents are nearby. We have portaloos at the units and outdoor sinks to brush your teeth at night!

There are also cabins which are bigger (about 10 people per tent) also no electricity and with the same beds and matresses, I strangely preferred the tents because they were more cozy!

The boys, because they are boys don't have to stay in tents or cabins! They get the luxury of the upstairs of the office...electricity and all!!

There's a big shower house which is a bit of a trek away from the units and again, not creature comforts but they work well enough! Then there's also a shower in the office building and the health centre.

We have a staff room in the office with computers and internet so you're not completely without electricity! It's where we all hang out on your time off and where the hair drying, phone charging and getting ready for nights off goes on! haha

There are allocated drivers at camp who'll drive you off camp for your nights off, nights off last year involved meals out, we went on a trip to the batting cages, cinema etc. Then on weekends off we'd go to the Log Cabin a lot of the time and have some drinkies!

The British staff definately outnumbered the American staff last year and if you've got a Scottish accent expect some banter! :) Also expect people to think Scotland is IN England - just like they think Wales is! Ruuuude!

Expect to come away from camp knowing loads of cheesy american camp songs which will stick in your head forrrreveeer! Don't worry about not knowing them at first because when I went last year it was my first year and I just picked them up as I went, even got the kids to teach me them!

I had the best summer ever last year and made some amazing friends, still in touch with most of them regularly and a load of them are coming to stay this weekend, so excited!! :D

Think only 3 people from the UK are going back this year though because a lot of people have work/tavel commitments this summer but can't wait to meet all the new people!

I have rambled A LOT but that's a bit about the camp itself! Seriously, any questions ask away, even if they seem really stupid! I know I had sooo many questions last year before I went to camp, mainly because I only found out I was going 2 weeks before I flew, eeek!

You on facebook? I have loads of photo albums of last summer if you wanna take a look! What's your last name and I'll add you!

xxxx

I'm not sure whether they are or not but email Candice, the camp director, her email address should be on the Girl Scouts of Connecticut website.

She should get back to you pretty soon and wouldn't mind you emailing her at all! :)

Let me know how you get on! xx

Michelle, did you get your flight date yet?
I'm Glasgow > NYC on June 18th. Will probably be a change at Heathrow though, hopefully we'll be on the same flight!
