Post Lifeguard course!
Could any who has previously done the liifeguard course tell me if you need to know how to dive to pass it. I love swimming but that's the one thing i've never been able to do no matter how many times i've tried.

Hey i took the lifeguard course and passed n i cant dive, u need to be able to surface dive (u know dive under when ur already in the water which is easy) R u taking the course in the uK or the states??? I took mine in the states in a lake, i hardly did any swimming b4 i took it cos i was told it was really easy.....just a bit of advice start going swimming now cos for sum people it can be a diffcult course (it was for me, even though i passed) completley worth it though lol, i loved my summer lifegaurding n off to do it again in 09...good luck x

i agree with you on the fact that u should do swimming before that course because it aint easy at all! the part that i found hard was the swim test that u had to do before the fun bits like surface diving to get the brick and jumping off the chair (in the proper way) and doing the senario.its lots of fun, the good thing is I had my camp director doing the course and she gave us all support during the swim test.

Yeah it is hard lol, i didn't find the swim test too bad, i found the surface diving down for the weight etc the hardest part, fro some reason i had a mental block about going so far under the water, i had no idea why cos i never had that problem before, i think its cos it was in a lake and i'd never swam in a lake before and i was a bit nervous of what was below the surface ha ha, sounds kinda silly now but i got over it as the instructors were really encouraging and by the end of the week i was really confident about swimming in the lake....It was defo a hard week but the feeling u get when u pass is amazing n all the hard work is defo worth it....i loved my job at camp!!! :D

I did the canoe course too lol, i know wot u mean bout the snakes, we were having a canoe race in the river by r camp n a snake popped his head up in the rocky part....i was unfazed by it at this point though cos i'd seen a couple of snakes (only small ones) i think when you've dun a few weeks at camp u kinda get used to the wildlife.....(someone even spotted a bear on r baseball field & we were once hiking n one of the girls said she could smell a skunk...i had no idea wot it was cos neva smelt a skunk but it smelt awful ha ha) Wot camp did u work at??? Am the same as u i can't wait to go back....what were ur jobs at camp...guessing horseriding & lifeguarding?? :D

I was lucky in that respect cos my camp was at a boarding school so we had proper bedrooms (and didnt share with kids either which was great cos we had r own space) so we dint get many spiders!!! I did sleep in a cabin at the place whwre we did r lifeguard training in i was terrified that there wub be loads of bugs lol :D
