Post Medical Forms - - - - THE BIG RIP OFF
does anyone else feel that they have been ripped off by the medical form situation.
we were never told that we would have to pay to have them filled in and yet some people have been charged up to £40.
another thing that really grinds my gears is the fact the doctor isnt even performing a proper medical, hes just ticking the boxes on a sheet then stamping it....takes him about 10mins and earns him easy money.....
anyone else annoyed by this?

Laurence,

Actually, the information is clearly stated on the Camp America website here:

http://www.campamerica.co.uk/what-you-pay.php

Did you read this before applying? If so, it shouldn't come as a surprise to you. Always a good idea to read all terms and conditions before applying for such a big venture!

£96? It's costing my dad that to get a full medical check for his job and thats actually going in and having everything checked rather than just ticking the boxes on a sheet!!! Cost me £10 or £15 (can't remember!) to have my sheet filled in.

I paid £18 this year at the uni docs i think they like to charge more tbh lol last yr at home i only paid £10 so it was fair reasonable. When they hear its for ca some places put the price down.

It's so unfair that everyone gets charged different amounts. I think it should be the same for everyone regardless of where you live or who your doctor is!

I believe that there should be a standard and reasonable charge but the doctor has every right to charge for a service when takes him away from people who have genuine medical problems. The form if done properly can take 30+ minutes to complete has they have to look through your full medical records (that is if they do it properly).

I half agree with you Ashley, that filling in forms is taking time away from patients, But we are patients too, just needing a different service than medical advice. It's a tough one. I think you're right that there should be a reasonable charge, but people have different definitions of reasonable! Personally I think paying a day's wages to get my own medical history was too much. But doctors earn a lot, maybe they are paid £60/hr so £30 for 30mins form-filling is the right amount! :D

Mine cost me £50 at the uni Dr's last year. THis year as i'm one week away form finishing uni i'm re registereing at home, althoguh i have to go in for a new patient interview...even thoguh i'd been there for 19 years previous to going to uni! They charged my sister £25 last year so hoping mine will be the same.

I think they have a right to charge but i think £50 is too much if its not includign a full medical. I think £25 is far more reasonable. WOudl be nice if it was free but doubt it will.

yea i kinda knew in the what we pay that physician fees could be up to £90 but its annoying that the doctor aint really actually doing anything for that money....i would understand if we had an appointment and they actually performed a proper medical for that money...either way its the NHS and im a student...
and to see that people are being charged from a minimum of £10 up to £96.....

maybe CA should try and sort something so that we can all pay a standard price

mine was gonna cost £90!!!! then when he found out i was payin it myself and not my parents he sed hell charge me £30! so i was very relieved!!!!!!!
and i had a full check up with mine also, which was great kinda. and i was fine although theres one little ish thing my doctor has been checking up on which he came across. So in away i would of never of had the full on check-up and in the end the doctor discovered something he wanted to monitor which is good in the sense that if i didt go to the doctors later on it may of got worst.

I was charged £20. I know it's neccessary and is needed to go away and I don't really mind paying £20 but I would have appreciated it if I didn't have to answer the questions becuase my doctor couldn't find my records so I had to go home and get my injection book to tell him what date all my injections were, I LITERALLY could have filled in everything myself and just asked for a bit of a stamp.

If i'd paid £20 and got a full check-up along with that I would be more than happy to pay the amount, however, anything over that is a complete joke. I feel lucky that I'm not my friend who had to pay £65 at her doctors.
