Post PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TO THE U.S EMBASSY IN LONDON BEFORE....
Hey guys.

All of you that have been to the U.S Embassy before, could you maybe tell me what you took as proof of return? As I am finding it difficult to get a letter from University for next years enrolment etc. I understand you can take bank statements, but that is only a POSSIBLE alternative. How likely is it that I'll be sent away when bringing an alternative in?

All this visa business is very stressy haha!!

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sara x

I think you can use a student finance letter, UCAS acceptance letter, a student card, rental agreement etc..

Honestly, don't let it stress you out! What you have will be fine (bank statements etc.) I wouldn't bother looking for anymore evidence.. You'll just be p*ssed off when they don't bother looking at it haha.

Thanks for all your comments :-)

Very helpful. Honest to god, in every day life im soooooo laid back it's unreal, but when it comes to things like this i.e. something I care about I get soooo stressy haha!!

I'm just gonna take my student card and maybe my contract for next years accommodation :-)

Thanks,

A word of warning - They DO look at your proof of return! I thought the same as you guys back in 2007/2008. However the last few years they have been very picky about the return documents! Last year i was sent away from the embassy because they wanted more proof of my return to the UK (and i took a letter from my employer!) I had to get more documents and fax them through the the embassy before my visa was approved!

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but please just make sure you are prepared with your proof of return. Its better to take too many than not enough!

If you are stuggling to get anything from uni then, ask your univeristy tutor to write a letter stating your participation on your course in the next academic year, and bank statements, and a letter from your parents stating your intent to return. etc.

After the kerfuffle i went through last year i was very careful and detailed with mine this year and thankfully it went through no problems! Who would have thought 6 years in, i would get problems then!?! It was a horrible feeling (i cried all the way back home thinking my summer had been cancelled!) and i would hate for anyone to go through the same thing!

I can honestly say I had the completely opposite experience, last year I accidently left one of my folders in the bag I left outside with the CA staff (which contained my proof of return and placement letter) and nobody batted an eyelid. What happened to you Angela just makes me more inclined to believe that it'll literally be down to which desk you get sent to.. Personally, I think the bank statements and student finance paper you have will be plenty, but better to be safe than sorry I suppose.

I totally agree! It definitely depends on the desk! Some are fussier than others! All the more reason to have as Much evidence as you can get.
