If there are other internationals they'd probably be up for travelling, however, Americans may not have the time due to uni (college/school as they say) starting up again. They go back as early as August!

If there are people going to your camp through CA - try and see if any of them are interested before going out there, to get an idea of what you might want to do etc.

Yeah, it'd be cheaper, but then of course it depends on what you want to see etc. I stayed with a family friend for just over a week in Boston. You kind of run out of things to do though. I did a lot of reading!

If you look at megabus for travel you might be able to get $1 tickets somewhere so it be may be cheap enough.

I stayed in Chicago for about 6 days because I only had that time to travel and had an amazing time. Chicago is great and cheap to visit because although it's big I guess, the attractions are close together so me and my friend never got a cab home. We just left enough time to walk home before it got dark and in the morning we enjoyed the walk anyway, it allows you to get a real feel for the people of that city rather than just seeing it through a car window. It gives you a better sense of direction and an idea of where everything is int he city.

I was in Miami for about a week. Spent the first two nights at one of the counsellors house then moved on to a hostel for one night with a friend from camp then another two people joined us so we moved to a better hostel/ hotel for 4 nights then moved to a cheap $9 hostel for the last night.

Accommodation for the 8 nights in total was $70

ok so here's another question for you guys...new england or california?
New England is closer to camp (I'm in Michigan) but I'm not sure walking round monuments/buildings/big cities would be that fun on my own. On the other hand I would have to pay at least £180 to fly home from Cali.

Can you not get from Cali back? Plus will you also be on your own in Cali? I don't mind walking around places on my own. Even though I travelled with a group of people we all split up and done our own things sometimes.

I can fly back from Cali it's just the most expensive option, like ultimate DIY was £180 last year. But I really want to see San Fran, San Diego, a little relaxing in LA, to AZ for the Grand Canyon and then maybe to Nevada for Death Valley. And yeah I'd be alone but I don't mind so much chilling on my own. Oh and I'd like to see Yosemite.

yeah I can, I just looked it up and it's less than £180. If I plan before camp it may be better anyway so that I know how much money I will spend, plus I know that I will have no one to travel with because there are only 2 internationals this year.
