I've been thinking more about this camp and it does actually seem really good there. I think maybe because I was hoping for somewhere in the South or Mid-West I was a bit hesitant.. but there's always time to go there once camp is over, right?

I did laugh though when I looked at google maps.. the nearest town is Winchester, Virginia.... I was born in Winchester, UK! Obviously it's meant to be

I really want to work with the Horses, i'm no expert but totally willing to learn and put the effort in. Will our helmets be acceptable over there though? Mine has BSI standards printed on the inside so they're fine for here but I know some countries can be picky if its not to their own standards? Taking my schooling whip might be interesting.. it's far too long for my luggage! I guess they'd be cheap enough over there though :) Long boots won't be an issue as I have wear short boots and half chaps.

The river stuff looks fun, tubing and kayaking! There's a pic of swimming horses on the camp map too!!

I think i'll reply to their email when I get home from work.
What did they chat about on the phone, people who have had calls already?

Travel after camp - I wanna go all round the southern states and up into the mid-west I think. Maybe ending up somewhere random like Wisconsin! I've been to NYC and CA/AZ/NV before (going to Vegas again in 2 months!) so they're not totally high on my list. Would recommend those places though :) I keep meaning to visit a friend of mine in Oregon too.
Hopefully some of the American Counsellors will be up for a road trip!

Returners - whats West Virginia/Virginia like? I heard its pretty humid. Most important question though - lightning bugs/fireflies?? I saw tons in Missouri this summer and they are SO pretty. Wouldn't be an American summer without them!

i was just reading the posts about this camp and thought i would let u know what virginia is like.
I was at a camp in virginia (not west virginia...its a different state) and it was beautiful! i never saw a fire flly but lots of lightening bugs... are they the same thing? they are lovely! there is lots of other bugs too like horse flies they r evil, snakes and spiders including the black widow and brown recluse. hehe i came to some close calls with the snakeys!!! but its all good!

Funny you should mention the brown recluse that is what i was bitten by and i was just outside of new york and them spiders arent even supposed to be there! its one of them things tho if its gunna happen it will happen just dont worry about it! :P

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

just off the phone to Caroline
im really excited now, everythings like eye popping out wow!
i am now to get there for May 11th another week. So total of 17 weeks there now.

I will be instucting young beginner girls :)

& i asked her about the horse riding luggage, and she's suggested that we email Camp America and ask them, or if they don't know if we get the airline contact, and ask them how much luggage were allowed, and also suggested to send it there before you actually go. The post office will be able to do it some sort of cheap way so not to worry about that like i was!

Shes lovely, and her friend who also works there sounds great too!

Cant wait to get over there now!!

I've done some work with the Natural Horsemanship, not much tho!
How about you?

Yer im sure there will be plenty of shops in washington D.C were we can get anything we need that we couldnt fit into our suitcases!!
nah ive really only just started natural horsemanship been watching some of the stuff Pat Parelli does, n just bn practacing the basics on the ground with some success lol.
Congrates to all who will be getting phone calls this wk!!

TO ALL: not sure if all of the riding girls read my earlier msg bout the Helmets situation, just to let you know that american safty standards arnt as stricked as UK, Aust, and New Zealand so i recomend you take one with you!!!!!!!! I think saftey is much more important than saving your self a few dollars in postage!!!

GK - Im from near Middlesbrough. I won't say the actual place cause no-one ever knows! So are you flying out for May 11th? As we may be on the same flight, in which case i wont be as scared :|!!

Aww sounds great, i'm going up to the farm now to tell my instructor, woop!
I'm teaching tomorrow getting some practise in for when we get there.
So should be good.

We did alot of work with a local man who could make his horse literally do anything, because of the trust. He used to jump no saddle, no reins, entered a showjumping comp. and they wouldnt let him compete because he had no reins or saddle. He was showing us loads, it really opens your eyes to how much you can relate to a horse.
