Important Info

Camp America takes the responsibility to look after applicants very seriously, and therefore seeks to ensure that from the moment you apply for summer work abroad to when you arrive home you re provided with the best possible care and service. We also are aware of our need to provide reliable and suitable staff to our Camps in America, and so will screen, interview and prepare all our applicants.

The extremely high placement rate of Camp America is a result of our careful choice of applicants. The interviewing process is designed to ensure that all our applicants are suitable for a cultural exchange involving working with children during their summer work abroad. We have a responsibility to protect children from anyone who might abuse the position of trust working on a camp entails. We accept only those who we are confident have the skills, character, experience and enthusiasm that a cultural exchange to a summer camp requires. By taking only the best applicants, we can also be sure that you will be up to the challenges of Camp life, and therefore have a fulfilling summer.

We go through careful preparation before you leave so that your summer is a positive, safe and rewarding experience. Not only is this summer work abroad – camps in America provide the backdrop for a fulfilling cultural exchange programme that will provide memories for a lifetime.

Before you leave for your summer camp in America, you will know where and when you will be working. As your J1 sponsor we will guide you through the vital task of obtaining your visa. We will also arrange for you free return flights, transfer to camp, free accommodation and food for the duration of your summer work abroad, provide medical insurance and a freephone helpline you can contact from anywhere in the States. There is always someone on duty twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, no matter which camps in America you are stationed.

We recognise that the decision to embark on summer work abroad in America is perhaps a difficult one to make. Due to our years of experience we can assure you of the dedicated service of the leader in cultural exchange. We offer you a fair service, with no hidden costs.

This is an explanation of payments you will need to make to participate in the Camp America cultural exchange programme. You can find the amounts in pounds and euro on our main website.

First Payment

The total amount is paid to the interviewer at the time of your interview to secure your summer work abroad. This payment indicates a commitment to the Camp America cultural exchange programme and the amount depends on how early you apply.

Application review

After your interview, your application form is reviewed in the UK and is then sent to America to be considered by the Camp Directors. This process is costly to Camp America and we like to know that you are serious about summer work abroad before we undertake it.

Acceptance

If you are not accepted on the programme or if we fail to find you a position at our affiliated camps in America, your first deposit will be returned to you.

Second Payment

Once you have confirmed your acceptance of a placement at one of our affiliated camps in America, you will be required to send us your second payment. Your second payment comprises the following:

Your payments will all be forfeited if you drop out or cancel from the programme for anything other than medical emergency (please see Terms & Conditions) American Embassy Visa Fee**

The Camp America Payment Guarantee

Camp America guarantees not to make any additional charges for currency or fuel fluctuations, even though currencies & fuel prices change throughout the year. Never, in over 30 years, have we changed our prices once our brochure has been published. However, we cannot be held liable for charges levied by Governments for their services, and you would therefore be wise to make your payments as early as possible. Remember the Good Faith payment is required at or before the interview. The obligatory components of the Second Payment are due only once a placement for summer work abroad has been found or a visa application generated.

We want you to realise exactly what summer work abroad with Camp America can give you. There are of course short term benefits - a great summer, a chance to experience the incredible atmosphere of summer camps in America, an opportunity to meet new people and to develop new skills.

But Camp America also offers you significant long term benefits. This is a cultural exchange programme, and many of our applicants find that time on Camp teaches them very important life lessons, such as interacting with different cultures, patience, teamwork. They also find the experience of working on summer camps in America leads to the development of their character, enabling them to reach their potential, and to learn about themselves. These are aspects of Camp that will be appealing to a future employer, but also more importantly a summer spent on a cultural exchange with Camp America can really change your life.

‘I would like to thank Camp America for giving me the opportunity to experience this amazing cultural exchange adventure and journey that has changed by life and views for the better.’ - Kirk, Kennolyn camp, UK.

‘On summer work abroad with Camp America, expect to work hard, be pushed to new levels and face challenges every day. But also expect to be changed, you get what you give to the campers and they change your life.’ - Grace, Pine Lake UMC, UK
