1. When do I need to be available and for how long?
Be available for nine weeks, leaving for the USA no later than June 20th 2012 (preference is given to applicants who are available earlier and for longer periods).
2. What skills/experience do I need to have?
You should have skills that will be relevant to jobs at a summer camp. You could be a student, teacher, sports instructor or youth worker (Counsellor role). Due to visa restrictions only students who are not in their final year (can be final year students in the UK) can be offered the Campower role, such as ground staff, waitress or chef. All references must be in English and the person providing the reference must have known the applicant for a minimum period of six months in a professional capacity. The person writing the reference must also have had contact with the applicant in the past 12 months and have sound knowledge of the applicant's character. The reference must be provided on letterhead or with a business card/stamp, and be signed. Only original copies are accepted.
4. How do I contact a Camp America interviewer?
Once you have completed your online application via our website, you will be presented with a list of steps to be taken. The 3rd step is 'Select an Interviewer' and here you will see a list of interviewers that are sorted by regions. Just select your region and then select the nearest interviewer to you. Once you have made the selection your application is available for the interviewer to review. The interviewer will review your application and respond to you within 5 days. If they have not responded within this time frame you should contact your local Camp America office either by email or phone. All communication is initially conducted via the Camp America web site. It is therefore essential that you keep on logging on to check for any updates.
5. What happens after I have pressed the SUBMIT button on the on-line application system?
After you have completed your application form and pressed the SUBMIT button your application is then available for review by your chosen interviewer.
6. Where do I send my application?
You do not mail your application anywhere. Your application is an On Line process so is available On Line (www.mycampamerica.com) for the Camp America Interviewer and Camp America to review. Please carefully follow the instructions sent to you by the interviewer.
7. I will not be 18 on June 1st - can I still apply?
It is a visa regulation that participants must be 18 when they fly to the United States, Camp America does not accept applications from people who are not 18 by 1st June. Only exception is: exceptionally skilled, experienced and certified people who are 18 in the first week of June. If you feel you fall into the exceptionally skilled, experienced and certified category please email your full details to Camp America for consideration.
