Typical day at a faith based camp

Sophie takes us through a typical day at a faith based camp.

.00- Wakey wakey time- Counsellors play loud music, sing, jump around, anything to get the kids out of bed! Make sure the kids get dressed, brush their teeth and hair in time for a fun day of activities.

.20- Flagpole. The flagpole is raised to the singing of the Israeli and American national anthems. The first bunk to arrive at flagpole gets to go to breakfast first!

.30- Prayers and tunes are sung! Breakfast consists of an array of cereal and pancakes with syrup.

.00- Everyone heads back to their bunks for a cleanup session. It’s a great chance for counsellors to prepare their daily activities, whilst the kids tidy their areas.

.30- Bunk by bunk, the kids and their counsellor’s head to the first morning activity. Time for some outdoor living skills: Learn to cook on an open fire or make a den in the woods!

.30- Hit the arts and crafts centre for activity two: paint some pottery, make a collage, or how about some messy paper mache.

.45- Lunch time! Crazy chanting, table banging, and prayers, followed by pasta, pasta and more pasta: A choice of 3 yummy selections, cheesy bread and salad. Afterwards, the kids get a choice of TWO items from the canteen- Candy, chocolate and soda get them super hyper for the afternoon!

.30- Rest time is crazier than the name would suggest, as it is a chance for kids to run around camp and let off a bit of steam! Counsellors supervise games of volleyball, or are stationed around camp to supervise.

.30- Bunk games and activities are a great way to bond with the group... Mountain biking on tracks through the woods is loads of fun!

.30- The kids love a chance to hit the pool and cool off after a hot day in the sun.

.30- Campers get to select their favourite activities for the afternoon, run by counsellors. A great chance for kids to hang out with their friends in different bunks.

.30- Second afternoon activity time- Volleyball, baseball, painting, photography, ropes course...the list goes on.

.50- Head to the flagpole once again to lower the flag, hear any announcements, and gather before dinner.

.00- The hungry camp pile onto the grass for cookout night: Burgers, hotdogs and potato salad.

.30- Evening activities commence: Campfires are a favourite on camp, where everyone gathers around the fire to sing songs and make smores.

.15- Its bed time, but getting the kids to sleep often takes a while... its often best to let them use their flashlights for a while, it won’t be long before their too tired to stay awake anyway!

.30- Counsellors take it in turns to watch each other’s bunks, giving the others a chance to relax in the staff cabin, watch a dvd, play table tennis or go online.
